5 Powerful Antidotes to Depression

1) Gratitude – When it comes to living life, gratitude is key. Without gratitude, there is no way to realize your full potential for feeling joy. Being sporadically grateful for this or that for a fleeting moment won't cut it either. If you're looking to maximize your experience, you need to deeply appreciate it on a regular basis. Achieving gratitude requires at least a bit of reflection, an opening up of your heart to feeling the moment, and an attitude of thankfulness. Gratitude as a general practice in approaching the vast majority of situations you encounter will have a profound effect on your daily experience.

In depression, one may feel caught in a depleting cycle without a way out. It typically involves a turning inward – a darkness that is isolating, – and it is dominated by pervasive negative thoughts. Gratitude is not easily found in such a state. If you are suffering from depression, you may need to force yourself to acknowledge the good things that you have and to count your blessings. At first, you may not feel all that grateful. But as you build this habit of giving thanks for the many things you truly have, and the many things that you are truly spared, a window is bound to open, and there is your happy moment.

2) Social interaction – Being with others can benefit you if you find you are feeling disconnected and isolated. It can be difficult to reach out socially when you are feeling depressed, but it helps if you can make the effort. Oftentimes, those who are depressed may avoid the company of others who are caring and would welcome them. It can take a push to get out there, but the results are worthwhile. There are many ways to get involved with others. Work colleagues, neighbors, even casual encounters with people as you go through your day – smile and make pleasant conversation, and you will notice that you are feeling a lift in your mood. Volunteering can result in a double benefit from the connection in socializing and the satisfaction in giving to others.

3) Taking care of yourself (exercise, diet, sleep) – If you believe that your state of mind is connected to your physical health, then it won't be a stretch to realize that each way that you benefit your body can have a positive effect on your mood. Thus, getting proper rest each day (most adults need close to 8 hours a night), eating a healthy and balanced diet, and making time for intentional aerobic and anaerobic exercise will help you maximize your mental health. If you have been neglecting yourself, you need a plan to achieve your goals for your physical health. Write them down, and be realistic. Gradually make improvements over time, and build momentum as you go along. Staying on course is self-reinforcing. As you feel better, you will want to maintain the changes. You needn't do anything aversive, like going overboard with working out or dieting. Moderate exercise in 30-minute intervals (such as walking or biking) and better food choices are not going to make you want to quit. Get a buddy to go along with you, or listen to some music. Think of making health improvements as taking care of yourself rather than other terms that may have negative connotations for you.

4) Pleasurable hobbies (reading, playing games, art, music, service) – Having interests makes a person more interesting. When you feel more interesting, you feel better about yourself. Interests also give you a basis upon which to bond with others, to share experiences, and to get involved. Most importantly, interests give you a focus on something outside of yourself, and can afford you a sense of purpose that makes your life experience richer. Reading broadens your perspective, takes you on journeys, and gives you something to think and/or talk about. Playing games can be a fun way to exercise your brain as well as to socialize. Art and music, whether you are a creator or a connoisseur, provide a feast for your mind as well as your senses, and bring all colors of emotion into your world. Service, in contributing to the welfare of others, can make you appreciate your blessings as well as teach you about the range of human experience. Whichever purposeful way you choose to spend your extra time, your pursuits can be uplifting to your mood.

5) Cognitive restructuring – A vital part of how you feel is what you think. What you tell yourself has a surprisingly powerful effect on your mood. After all, why would you think something unless you believed it to be inherently true? Deep-seated beliefs and their associated fleeting thoughts give rise to your emotional state and are a guiding force in your decisions and actions. Oftentimes, people are not aware of their negative beliefs and thoughts, and even if they know about them, they are uncertain about what to do about them. It takes work and practice to identify distorted, maladaptive thoughts and change them. A primary goal of cognitive behavioral therapy is cognitive restructuring – the purposeful identification of problematic thoughts and the work of revising them in order to maximize one's psychological well being and functioning. Research on cognitive behavioral therapy has repeatedly demonstrated the effectiveness in this treatment approach in improving mood and behavior. Licensed therapists who are trained and knowledgeable in this specific type of therapy are able to show you the way to modify your thoughts for the better. When aware and equipped, you can help yourself out when faced with harmful messages you may be in the habit of telling yourself.

We all search for different things. Some of us seek money, some seek fame, some seek love, and some seek health. I believe that what we're all ultimately searching for is happiness. "I'll be happy if I find the love of my life…I'll be happy if I get that promotion… I'll be happy if my sickness is healed…" The list goes on! We seem to forget that people who have money, fame, love, or health are not necessarily happy.

Instead of those things that may lead to happiness, we should examine what does cause happiness. You may be thinking, "Why should I listen to you, Dr. Puff?"

Perhaps I feel as though I have knowledge to impart regarding finding happiness because God created me in such a way that this has been my passion. I have, from a young age, pursued happiness, exploring what makes us happy and how exactly we can be happy. My journey has been long and arduous, but along the way I gained important insights into the art of being and staying happy. I absolutely guarantee that anyone can be happy if he or she works at it. At our core, happiness is what we're all pursuing. We may be searching for it by following our favorite sports team every weekend, searching for love in the local clubs, or toiling daily at work, hoping to make enough money so that all will be well.

I would like to share a story I heard that explains what happiness, at its core, is about. There once was a man named Jim who constantly prayed to God, always wanting something. One night while Jim was saying his prayers, a voice spoke to him out of nowhere. Although he felt very frightened, he finally mustered up the courage to ask, "Who is it?" The voice answered, "I am God." As you can imagine, he was both very scared and very excited. Jim asked Him, "Why are you here, God? What do you want?" God replied, "Jim, you have been praying to me for many years, constantly asking me for this and that. I have decided that I am going to give you one last thing. It can be anything you wish. However, what you ask for will be the last thing I ever give you, so consider carefully what you want." Jim was thrilled, but extremely nervous. He didn't know what to ask for, and shuddered at the thought of making an unwise choice! He began asking his friends for advice. One friend advised, "Ask for money!" but a second friend warned, "No! We know people who have money but still have problems." A third friend recommended, "Ask for a long life!" but yet another friend warned, "No! If you do, you will outlive all your friends and loved ones, and be sad and lonely later in life." Jim continued to question people about what he should ask God for, but nothing seemed right. Six months later, God returned to Jim. God said, "Jim, it has been six months and I must have your answer. What is it that you want from me?" Jim replied, "God, may I ask you a question first?" God smiled, and responded, "Yes, Jim, of course you may ask me a question. What is it?" And so Jim asked, "God, can you tell me what to wish for? I don't know what I want." God looked wise and said, "Yes, Jim, I will tell you what to ask for. Jim, what you should ask for is to be content with whatever happens in your life." Jim grinned and nodded, finally understanding what God was trying to teach him.

What Jim's story tells us is that if we learn to be happy with what we have, then we are happy. Even if everything may not be going exactly the way we initially planned, if we love what we have while at the same time working toward making changes, we will lead a happy life.

"Be content with whatever happens in your life." You may say, "I am in a job I don't like. Can I be happy?" Of course! Make adjustments as best you can, but if your job satisfaction still doesn't change, learn to be content with what you have. Retrain your thinking.

There is a rule of logic that states, "If any person in the universe can be happy with 'this thing,' then it is a possibility for anyone." In other words, if someone has cancer or has lost the love of their life but is happy, it means that any of us, although we may suffer from similar misfortunes, can be happy. Happiness is possible right now, in whatever situation you may find yourself.

Next, you must PHYSICALLY move in the general direction of what you want to ever see them come true. It's not enough to just have a navigation system, give it an end result, sit there and hope your dreams fall into your hands.

If this is all you do, your car won't move one inch. Your navigation system, no matter how miraculously and powerful it is, will do nothing for you in your life! Instead, you have to physically put your car in gear and physically move!

Step 3: Trust the system

Every single day, as you physically move in the general direction, you're getting closer to your dreams. Once you plant the end result with the Universe and begin moving with it, gigantic wheels are set into motion for you behind the curtains of time and space.

It always works. Trust the system.

Here's what I want you to do next…

ACTION PLAN: Take the next 10-15 minutes and write it down on a piece of 3×5 paper… what is that ONE THING you want in life that you absolutely MUST have. Be as specific and focused as possible. Remind yourself daily by reading your goal at least once each day. (I keep mine in my wallet and I read it at least 5-10 times each day)

Let's begin with this truth:

Sometimes you wake up in the morning and
you feel a sense of vague (or not so vague)
anxiety.  Something is definitely wrong and
you have no idea how you are going to fix it.

I don't know what your particular circumstance
is, but the pile of problems, the things that
need doing, the number of things that could go
wrong for you (or for someone you love) are
just too scary to really cope with.

But...

It is also true that at other times... just
the day before or maybe just an hour later...
EVERYTHING seems so perfect, so good, so clear.

And yet NOTHING HAS CHANGED.  Your circumstances
are the same.  Yet sometimes life seems overwhelming
and dreadful, and sometimes it seems full of
possibility and excitement.

A simple (and kind of shitty) fact about human
psychology is that we tend to cling tightly to
the things that we dislike most in our lives and
about our selves.  We get tremendous amounts of
identity validation through that which we have to
suffer through. 

We are unduly proud of the bad stuff we have to
endure in our lives, and often feel embarrassment for
those things that are given to us easily by life.

Here's another fact about human psychology:

Our circumstances DO NOT dictate our happiness.
If they did then lottery winners would all be
happy and paraplegics would all be unhappy...
and that is not at all the case.

You may think to yourself that this is not true
for you... that winning the lottery would indeed
make you happy and losing your legs would make
you unhappy, but you'd be wrong.

The secret of happiness is deciding to be happy.

A powerful tool for doing this is the Thanksgiving
Exercise, and today is a good day to add it to your
life.

Set a timer for 10 minutes and sit down with any
text editor or a pad and paper.  Put a date on top
and just start writing about everything you are
grateful for.

Just let it flow...

You parents, your children, your education, your
job, your unemployment check, clean air, food on
your table, your computer, your favorite tv show,
the arrival of the Victoria's Secret catalog (or
even the existence of beautiful humans for you to
behold), your body, your dreams, your best friend,
your 2nd grade teacher who made you feel important,
the person who taught you to catch a ball, your
favorite food, freedom, your relationship to god or your
relationship to logic or your relationship to truth
or the sweet spot where they join together for
you. 

This simple exercise will bring into focus why
you should be having a good day and not a bad day
and will result in a lot more good days.

The circumstances in your life about which you
have anxiety, sadness, shame, loss... these will
not vanish, but they do not require as much attention
as your ego gives them.

Do the Thanksgiving exercise for 10 minutes a day
(Come on!  Ten minutes!), and it will change your
life in the most profound way possible:

It will make you a happier person.

You will probably nod and think this is pretty
good advice and then not do it anyway. 

Why?

I challenge you to take a moment and put this
right into your calendar for the next week... to
actually DO IT.


Here's Tip #2...

Share your list with someone you love, preferably
your lover, your best friend, or someone in your
family.

Share it by reading it out loud with humility
and reverence and fearlessness.  Do not edit, and
do not let yourself be defeated by shame about
anything on that list that is true for you... even
something that feels base like, "money," or
"masturbation," or "the mall".

Your ability to be authentic about weird stuff
that makes you happy is a way to be both known
and accepted.  And people admire those who are
willing to risk embarrassment to be authentically
known because it gives them permission to be more
free themselves.

Oh, and don't forget that one of the things you are
thankful for is THEM.

Telling it out loud will not only make it more real,
but it will put leverage on you to live in that
gratitude in front of them.

If they feel compelled to share some of the things
they are grateful for, listen to them with all of
your attention and do not coach them or offer any
opinion on what they reveal (even if they did not
afford you the same dignity).  And then thank
them for sharing a part of themselves with you. 

Tip #3 is more advanced.  If you do the two above
you are going to have one of hell of great Thanksgiving...

You don't have to take this one on, but give it
some consideration as it has the capacity to
launch your life into a more fully realized
state:

Consider the possibility of appreciating ALL
OF IT.

It's easy to appreciate and be grateful for
accomplishment, pleasure, and gain...

But given that we all must die... given that
our time here is so short... can you find a
way to appreciate all human experience at the
level of experiencing everything that life has
to offer?

Can you appreciate defeat, pain, and loss at
their own level? ...take them as experience
itself, the opportunity to feel the full palette
of being a complete human?

Just as bitter foods are not appreciated by
children... they are "an acquired taste," so is
appreciation of the bitterness in life. 

Acquiring a taste for bitter experience and
feeling into it with the possibility of
gratitude is something that requires great
maturity and strong intention. 

Consider it.

Whether or not you are celebrating the
Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S....

Killer Solar Flare Won't Destroy Earth in 2012, says NASA

If the world ends in 2012, the sun won't be to blame, NASA officials say.

Contrary to what some doomsayers would have you believe, our star isn't capable of blasting out a solar flare powerful enough to burn our planet to a crisp, according to the space agency.

"Most importantly, however, there simply isn't enough energy in the sun to send a killer fireball 93 million miles to destroy Earth," NASA officials wrote in a Nov. 10 statement.

The Mayans' "long-count" calendar is set to expire on Dec. 21, 2012, marking the end of a 5,126-year epoch. This factoid has inspired some folks to start girding up for the coming apocalypse — and to start predicting what may bring it about.

One popular theory is that a huge solar flare could do the Earth in. Some fearmongers have pointed out that the sun's activity is ramping up, implying that a killer outburst could be coming next year.

The sun is indeed building up toward the peak of its 11-year activity cycle. But that peak is expected to come in 2013 or 2014, not 2012, researchers said. Also, countless solar maxima have come and gone over the years, and we — and the Earth — are still here.

But that reasoning is all secondary to the main point, which is that a flare's sizzling heat cannot make it all the way to our planet, researchers said.

The sun's rumblings can and do affect our planet, of course. Flares, for example, can temporarily alter Earth's upper atmosphere, causing disruptions in satellite communications.
And coronal mass ejections (CMEs) — huge eruptions of solar plasma that streak into space at 3 million mph (5 million kph) or more — can be even more troublesome. CMEs that hit Earth can knock out GPS signals, radio communications and power grids.

A powerful, well-aimed CME could thus wreak serious havoc on our increasingly tech-enabled and tech-dependent society. But it wouldn't destroy the planet or wipe out humanity, researchers said.

No Nibiru, either

The candidates to bring about the end times next year keep dwindling.

Comet Elenin, which some observers speculated would align with other heavenly bodies and spur massive earthquakes and tsunamis, broke up recently after zipping close to the sun.

The supposed planet Nibiru has also been heralded as an agent of apocalypse. The rogue body, which is thought to be four times the size of Earth, will smash into our planet next year and kill us all, some predict.

The problem with that theory is that Nibiru, also known as Planet X, doesn't exist, experts say.

"There's no evidence whatsoever for Nibiru," Don Yeomans, manager of the Near-Earth Object Office at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., said in a recent NASA video. "There's no planet Nibiru, there's no Planet X, and nothing is hurtling toward us."

Yeomans isn't planning to make any apocalyptic preparations when December 2012 rolls around.

"I'm not going to lay in any extra supplies — no survival gear," Yeomans said. "I'm just going to lay in an extra supply of egg nog for the coming holiday season."

For some, Thanksgiving is the beginning of a holiday season filled with joy and happiness at the prospect of spending time with family. For others, it's a sadder time blemished by bad memories or dread. Feeling gratitude is a potent tonic that can immeasurably improve your happiness and sense of well-being. Author Melodie Beatie tells us why. "Gratitude" she says, "unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more."

The platitudes are true. The key to happiness is deciding to be happy. It's not getting more than you have; it's appreciating what you have.

So, whether things are going well or poorly, this Thanksgiving, open up a new emotional bank account and start filling it with all the things that deserve your gratitude. If you do, you will have even more to be grateful for.

I want to bring to your attention a scary poll:

Only 13 people in 100 now believe they have enough money to retire comfortably. It was almost 30 in 100 in the first quarter of 2010.

Now, don't misunderstand me here, when I ask this rhetorical question ('cause there is balance needed, as I'll tell you about in a second), but really...

With people hunkering down -- families are de-leveraging at a massive pace -- and many small businesses getting "the squeeze" from the contracting economy, do you really think this is the best time to SPEND money on a high-end course about "money mindset" (indirect activity) when you can just put the money you have to work for you (direct productivity)?

Of course, I'm speaking in general here, and not specifically asking YOU the above question.

However, to ask it differently and more personally:

Has your lifestyle recently changed because you didn't have access to a source of cash-flow, when you needed it?

And, I'm not talking debt-financing here. No, you, unlike our government, don't have a printing press (if you do, let us know; we'll come over with a bottle of Dom Perignon and borrow it for an hour or two).

What I am talking about, though, is this:

There are relatively proven and safe places (compared to, say, a bank, for instance, that goes out of business — over 700 of them) where you can turn small amounts of money, without any work on your part, into BIGGER amounts of money.

And, there are two main reasons you don't yet know about these places:

#1) You're Normal! That's right, to be blunt, you do what everybody else does. You get your resources, contacts, and Rolodex from the very same people in your own situation. Or worse, the mainstream news.

All our lives we are pushed into the crowd to fit in... thus we are "wounded by normalcy." "Normal" people don't do anything abnormal or supernatural (above natural). They might be considered crazy or a dreamer if they dared try anything out of the norm!

1. Jobs was born to an Arab father, Abdulfattah Jandali and an unmarried American graduate student Joanne Simpson who later became a political science professor. He was later adopted by a middle-class couple, Clara and Paul Jobs, and grew up in California. As an adult, Steve learned that he had a biological sister, novelist Mona Simpson, who had lived in his home state all along.

2. Steve Jobs was slightly dyslexic. He had the company of legendary figures like Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell and Henry Ford in this.

3. Jobs beheld a computer at a young age of 12 and that too back in 1967. Larry Lang, an engineer at Hewlett-Packard, showed him the machine, and he (Jobs) immediately wanted one to just mess around with. He wrote: "I just thought they were neat. I just wanted to mess around with one."

4. Not many people know that Steve Jobs was a college dropout. In 1972, he graduated from Homestead High School in Cupertino, California and enrolled in Reed College in Oregon. One semester later he dropped out. He can be joined in this league by tycoons like Bill Gates (Microsoft), Richard Branson (Virgin Group), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Michael Dell (Dell Computers), Azim Premji (Wipro), John D. Rockefeller (American oil baron, investor, and philanthropist), Dhirubhai Ambani (Reliance Industries) and many more.

5. Idea behind 'i': First used with iMac in 1998, Jobs said at the launch that 'i' denotes tenets like internet, individual, instruct, inform, inspire.

6. His first job was as a video game designer at Atari, a position he took only in order to save money to travel to India for a spiritual retreat. He finally took the journey in 1974 with a friend from college. Rumour has it that he returned to the U.S. wearing traditional Indian clothing and with a shaved head. In any case, Jobs became a Buddhist.

7. He founded Apple in 1976 with former electronics hacker Stephen Wozniak in a garage in Silicon Valley. Jobs also convinced John Sculley, the then president of PepsiCo, to quit his job and become Apples CEO by saying, "Do you want to sell sugared water all your life, or do you want to change the world?"

8. In 1985, he was ousted from Apple by John Sculley, the same guy he brought over from PepsiCo! There was a disagreement on how to run the company. On his ouster Jobs told the 2005 Stanford graduating class: "It was an awful-tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life's gonna hit you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith." 'Stay hungry, stay foolish' was his closing comment for the address.

9. In 1986, he acquired the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm Ltd which was spun off as Pixar Animation Studios, the most successful animation studio in the world. Pixar is now owned by The Walt Disney Company. He was also on the board of Disney.

10. A decade after being fired he returned to rescue the dwindling Apple. He was the man behind Apple's countercultural sensibility and a minimalist design ethic which led the company to unveil a series of breakthrough products, even in the face of the late-2000s recession and his own failing health.

13. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is a self-confessed Jobs' fan. "In terms of an inspirational leader, Steve Jobs is really the best I have ever met," said Gates in January 1998 when asked to name the CEO he most admired. "He's got a belief in excellence of products. He's able to communicate that," said Gates.

14. His take-home annual salary as the CEO of Apple Inc was $1. However, he owned some 5.5 million shares in the company, which are worth some $1.8 billion at the current price of around $333 a share, a rise of more than 50 per cent on the year. His annual income from Disney shares was $48 million.

15. In 2008, a blunder happened and Jobs read his own obituary. Bloomberg, a financial news-aggregating company in the U.S., declared Jobs dead even though he was alive and kicking. The gaffe happened when the agency decided to update its 17-page stock obituary on Steve Jobs, and someone accidentally published it in the process. All hell broke loose and the storm only settled when Bloomberg publicly retracted the news.

How to Sell Anything to Anyone

It's mind-boggling to me when I talk to most copywriters, marketers and entrepreneurs and they desperately search for the best approach to communicate or market a written message – when the most obvious tools are staring them right in the face.

What's even more baffling to me is that many of them have to search for the "best way" to motivate prospects to buy their product and services – instead of first understanding what unconsciously motivates them to act.

If you haven't guessed what the most obvious tools are that's staring you right in the face, its unconscious psychological devices – more particularly, the thinking habits of every brain on the face of the planet earth.

Unconscious psychological devices are "motivations" of the mind that are embedded deep within a person's brain, and require a simple "push button" trigger to activate an automatic response action from their brain in the form of placing an order, a request for more information (generating leads), and/or a phone call or visit to the store or other place of business.

The concept of mind control has always been irresistible to
copywriters, salespeople, marketers and entrepreneurs. Why? Obviously, it gives the person who knows these psychological devices the privileged benefits to "push button" automatic fortunes.

If you're a writer, in business or in the marketing arena who's
interested in specializing in this million dollar knowledge, you're in luck because I'm going to share 7 of them with you right now. And here they are:

1. Story– Everyone loves a good story

There's a magic that happens when you tell a story. The reader or
listener has to become part of the story, in order to make sense of it. This
is where you get them to FEEL, and almost realistically experience – in
their imaginations, what you're telling them. Unconsciously, this
creates a memory and it is harder to forget. Finally, it helps you create a
bond with your prospect.

Application: Relate to your prospect and come up with a story that
gives them imaginative reasons to use your product or service.

2. Time Distortion – "Pretending They Already Are"

Here's the attitude: "You already want and own this product and let me
show you what it's like to." Basically, what you're doing is future
pacing their thoughts as if they are holding your product or service in
their hands. Use simple descriptive phrases that initiate a "sense" or
"touch" response, and it instills in the mind of your prospects that they
already own it. They will begin to imagine the benefits of doing so all
on their own.

Application: If you sell books, they are flipping though the pages.
Electronics, they are using this neat gadget (pushing the buttons,
twisting knobs etc). Cars, boats, anything – get in and drive it, grab the
wheel.

3. Credibility – To Project Authority

Make what you say believable, and nothing outrageous. Who is backing
your message? Do you have happy buyers of your products or services? What
do they have to say? Put that in your message. Show them experts
endorse your products. If it's not believable, your prospects are going to
"pick up" on that. Credibility instills what you're saying is true,
period. Just give proof.

Application: Ask your customers for testimonials, even if you have to
ethically bribe them for one. Offer a free sample, bonus, or report.
Simply put, the more credibility you create for you and your product or
service, the more believable the message becomes, and the less resistance
they have when it comes to make a buying decision.

4. Urgency – To Act Now

Even if your sales message is emotionally driven and powerful -- making
them feel like the want to buy, place a sense of urgency to reinforce
them to buy it now, and to not wait, period. Limited offers, supplies
won't last, this deal won't last long. No matter how powerful your sales
message is, if they get away – after so long, the feeling and their
buying decision erodes away their desire to buy now, until it's gone.

Application: Come up with a compelling reason to get your prospect to
feel so compelled it's absolutely necessary they must buy it now,
because it's urgent. Maybe use "fear of loss."

5. I Gave It To You Free, You're Guilty – To Create The Return Effect

Ever get an offer in the mail of a free sample of a product? Ever go to
a website and get 3 free chapters of a book? Giving something to
someone for free creates guilt, the feeling to give back. If your friend buys
you dinner, you might feel the need to buy it next time. It's human
nature. When something's given, the desire to give back is created.

Application: Give away a free sample or report – anything for free.
Make sure it is something of real value. After, suggest that you've given
them something and how they're one tuff nut to crack, because you've
given them something for free, and you haven't heard back from them. Sit
back, and watch them buy.

6. Commit then remain Consistent – To Create Long-Term
Friendships/Action


Here's the attitude: "If you're buying from me now, we're friends;
you'll buy more from me too." You've won the customers trust once you've
established the first sale, and once they're happy, make them happy again,
and again. Buy something from the television and you're almost always
asked to buy more, it's simple. Then, two months later, another offer
from that same company rings on your phone in the other room, or the
offer is waiting in your mail box when you get home. Normally, being a much
higher priced product or service. Why not ask? You're obviously
qualified.

Application: If they buy once, get them to buy again and again. If you
sell information memberships, sell all the tools and products that the
membership consists of (improving your golf game membership website –
sell golf clubs, balls, clothing, shoes etc.) If you sell them a book,
sell them a home study course that's more expensive.

7. Curiosity – To Keep Your Prospect Tuned In

Early in your sales presentation, promise what will happen when they
finish and complete your sales presentation, and keep them curious.
Curiosity is a powerful tool you can use to keep your prospect in suspense,
and to search out the answers to satisfy that strong desire to "fill
in" the missing information. Leave out certain information in your
benefits that "trigger" the thought "What will happen if?"

Application: Instill and arouse curiosity early in your sales
presentation to cause your prospect to want to complete your message (i.e. tell
them there's a misspelled word in your sales copy, and if they can find
it – they get a special deal. Ask them if they want to compelling
benefit, and tell them they'll find the answer as they continue to read, or
pay attention to you.

As you've probably noticed, it's infinitely more powerful to apply
these psychological devices in your presentation when you realize they all
open the flood gates of a person's brain, and deliver compelling
emotions and complex thoughts and meaning. Anyone who comes across one of
these seven applications will "undergo" the spell of this covert influence
because it sparks response below a person's surface awareness.

So, the only question to ask yourself is: "Are *you* going to use them?
To find out, simply go through the following checklist, and count the
number of items that apply to you.

1. You want more sales

2. You're willing to look through your sales presentation making sure
each of these devices are applied

3. You prefer to *use* powerful knowledge over just "knowing it"

4. You want more power in your ability to influence others on
undetectable brain levels

5. You are curious and interested in creating more powerful
"unconscious" influence

6. Covert persuasion and influence doesn't scare you and you'll use it
to your advantage in ethical and judicious ways

7. You are willing to sit down and brainstorm how you can apply these
psychological devices to your sales presentations, even if only applying
one device a day, because you know it'll bring your more sales, and
consequently, profits.

If at least 5 of the 7 above statements are true for you, then you're
ready to use the most powerful form of undetectable communication that
exists today. This is the best time to break into the covert persuasion
and influence segment of communication.

Why Are You Whining About the Meaninglessness of Life?

In "The Matrix", Morpheus asks Neo "have you ever had a dream that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream – how could you tell the difference between the dream world and the real world?"

There's a whole metaphor there about reality and delusion et cetera and it's been done to death by everyone who thinks they're a smart guy on the internets, but almost nobody understands the flipside of this coin and asks the counterpart question, which is what I'm going to ask you now:

Have you ever had a dream where you realized you were dreaming while you were still dreaming?

Some people never have, some people have on occasion, and to some people (like the undersigned) it happens all the time. This post will probably be easier for you and give you more if you have some experience of what I'm talking about, but if you don't I'm going to walk you through it and you can probably follow just fine. It's not a contest or an achievement to lord over anybody.

Imagine (or remember) that you're dreaming, and things are happening in the dream, and you suddenly find yourself becoming aware of the fact that you are dreaming. How does that make you feel? What's your reaction? What do you "do" in the dream once your know it's a dream?

The first and most obvious realization you have at that point should be that nothing in the dream means anything or is of any consequence – it's all just stuff your unconscious brain made up and as soon as you wake up it'll be like it never was.

Nothing in the dream can really hurt you, and there's nothing to really achieve. Nothing can be won or lost through your actions because it's just a dream.

The only reason you could possibly have to take any action at all is to have a more pleasant dreaming experience. Nothing "matters" in the slightest, because the dream consists of nothing at all except your experience of the dream.

To realize this in a dream is awesome. There's nothing to fear and everything to play with. You're free to run around and find exciting things to drive or fight or have sex with – it's better than any video game. It's pretty much better than anything 99% of people ever get to do while they're awake. There is basically nothing about the realization that it's all meaningless and nothing matters that isn't 100% pure awesome.

But when people have the same realization while awake… oh boy, do they take it hard and become whiny bitches. "Boo hoo, my life has no purpose, my work means nothing, no one will remember me when I'm dead and I'm pretty sure no one even cares now!"

Well, hello from customer service, excuse me sir but where's the fucking problem?

You just had the most liberating experience it's possible for a human being to have in this dreamstate we call "life", and instead of enjoying your new-found freedom to the fullest and experiencing this "life" dream for everything it has to offer, you are sitting there crying like your Playstation just broke.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

With employers receiving hundreds of resume on a daily basis, how do you ensure your resume hooks an employer's attention in just a glance? Writing a resume involves a lot of tips and tricks. A great CV must follow certain dos and don'ts. Although there are tons one can add on to this list, here are a few basic points your resume cannot miss.

  • Know the purpose of your resume

    The first thing that you need to understand is that a resume is not going to fetch you a job. It is the first step to get an interview call which will in turn land you in a job.

  • Back up your strengths

    While most of us like to flaunt off our strengths, a resume is just not the right place do to so. Any company or recruiter will get a better idea of your strengths when you relate it with your work/college experience, lest it might appear too vague.

  • Usage of language

    Like it or not, employers can judge your resume in no time. Using the apt language is the key to get interview calls. Simple English is appreciated over long, complex sentences. Avoid jargon, keep the titles short and crisp, be descriptive and stick to ...

  • Order of details

    ,

    Ensure your education details follow ascending or descending order. Your prior work experience can help the recruiter gauge your skills and abilities. So put them first. While adding your other achievements, add the most recent ones on top.

  • Typography

    Big fonts make the recruiter's job easier. However, 11 or 12 is the smallest you can go. Do not use capitals all over your resume. Remember your goal is to communicate the message as crisply as possible. Stick to one font style.

  • Keep negativity at bay

    Spare your resume from any kind of negative information. Things that you hated about previous employer, personal opinions etc can create a negative impression about you.

  • Irrelevant information

    Don't include irrelevant information like your religion, age or political affiliation. Just skip these! It might interrupt your chances of landing in an interview.

    Remember you have to market yourself through your resume. However, never overdo it, as you might end up blowing your own trumpet. As long as you avoid this, your marketing efforts are sure to fetch you a job.

  • Length of your resume

    No matter how long you have worked, never let your resume run for more than one or two pages at the maximum. Bear in mind that no one will have the patience to flip them. Keep it short and to the point.

  • Read and re-read

    Once you are done, proof read your resume. Check for spelling errors, facts and other important factors. You could also take help from a friend, family or someone who has more experience than yourself.
