By Jules Gregory, Creator of Binaural Audios
Self hypnosis and the use of binaural beats sounds seek to accomplish one and the same thing. However, the approach and technique used to attain brain transformation differs in comparison.
Self hypnosis utilizes induction commands or imagery to cause the mind slip into different states of consciousness. It is also widely accepted that hypnosis requires the participant to actually submit to the suggestions of the thearpist and any resistance would make it hard, if not impossible to create the desired results or outcome.
In short, the person being hypnotised has the ability to mentally counterct the suggestions and thus choose not to enter the specific state of mind required.
Binaural beats on the other hand, involves the use of wave frequencies to access the mind. Binaural beat sound entwines with the brain frequencies to slip the mind to various conscious states.
The alternating waves frequencies from the binaural sounds gives easy access to the subconscious mind. When this is attained then affirmations are easily passed to the subconscious mind aiding it to develop into a predetermined state. The results of this act are numerous and helpful to any individual who seeks to better his/her lifestyle.
Brainwave technology and the binaural beats always operate inside the brain stem itself without assistance in any way, shape or form. On the other hand, hypnosis training first needs assistance usually in the form of a therapist whose ultimate goal is to gain access to the very same area of the brain by way of manipulation in the form of a trance.
The brain emits an electrical charge between its cells, the neurons, in response to an outward stimulus of the senses, whether the ears, eyes, or other senses. The response is called a cortical evoked response. The electrical bursts throughout your brain determine how, and what, you see and hear. These electrical bursts can be measured by connecting electrodes to the scalp.
If the stimulus is rhythmic, such as music, the rhythm is produced in the brain as electrical impulses. If the rhythm becomes consistent and fast enough it resembles the natural brainwaves. The brain then responds by synchronizing its own pulses to the beat of the music. This response is called Frequency Following Response.
Brainwave synchronization, also called brainwave entrainment, is a naturally occurring response where similar frequencies tend to synchronize with each other. Entrainment is a principle of physics. This frequency following response appears in chemistry, neurology, astronomy, pharmacology, and biology.
For example in 1656, a Dutch scientist named Christian Huygens, was working on the design of the pendulum clock. He found that if he put two unsynchronized clocks side by side they would slowly synchronize to each other.
Another example is that if a tuning fork which produces a frequency of 500 Hz is struck causing it to vibrate if it is brought near another 500Hz tuning fork, the second fork will begin to vibrate as well. The first fork is said to have entrained the second fork.
While the discovery of brainwaves may be recent, brain entrainment has gone on socially for ages by tribal chanting, drum beats, and dancing.
Intentionally changing the level of brainwaves through entrainment has a number of benefits. If a person has sleeping disorders, entraining their brain leads to relaxation. A state of mediation can be attained more quickly if the brain is entrained to the Alpha state. The Alpha state is very receptive to learning. When a subject is successfully hypnotized they usually are in the Alpha state. Breaking bad habits and starting new habits in their place will be more successful if the Alpha state is used to promote the new habit.
Exceptional performers have been monitored, and it has been found that certain brainwave frequencies and states are associated with high performance in certain tasks. By comparing these results, we know the exact frequencies of brainwave activity that are present when geniuses such as Einstein and Edison conceived amazing new ideas, when artists such as Da Vinci and Picasso painted brilliant art and when grand masters such as Bobby Fischer mentally play out a chess game 8 moves ahead.
With the advent of instantly downloadable brainwave entrainment audios, we are now able to fast track this process and tailor our personal development around our busy schedules. Pretty neat, right?
It is now possible to meditate like the most proficient monk simply by listening to an MP3 audio on your favorite player or to banish those limiting beliefs from the safety of your well worn armchair or as you drift into an effortless sleep at the end of your day.
This once space age technology that was the reserve of the wealthy, is now available to everyone who wishes to enjoy the benefits.
So what are the benefits?
It's a simple fact that binaural beats, brainwave entrainment and subliminal audios can have a profound affect on your life by re-programming your brian to accept a brand new set of beliefs and standards that will not only help you to relax, but will change the way you view what you might think is your current reality.
They promote happiness and optimism in regular users as well as a greater sense of one's self and a greater ability to think with a clearer, more open mind. I am sure you will agree that having a more open mind can only be a good thing, right?
This type of audio has been proven to lower blood pressure, stress and anxiety thus enabling you to reduce the risk of falling victim to the types of disease and illness associated with these conditions. They are also very effective at reducing the effects of other conditions such as depression.
You and I both know that the long time use of pharmaceutical drugs for pain control, might cause greater long term damage to your health, but what are the alternatives? Well, binaural audios are widely used for this very purpose because they have no adverse side affects whatsoever. Fact! The truth is, we need to find alternatives to the traditional approach to popping pills for every ache and pain we have.
Over time, you will begin to become aware of a profound change in your general attitude and your ability to deal with life's ups and downs may seem to be that bit easier. You may also notice that your personal relationships start to improve as you become a calmer, more relaxed person.
I don't know which you will find the most amazing benefit, becoming a more relaxed and happy person, or learning to cope with anything life has to throw at you with ease and confidence.
"It's not about what you are not able to do. What you need to become curious about, is what's possible."
Scientific Research of Binaural Beats
Much like western medicine brainwave entrainment works on scientific principle, research and testing. There are over 70 years of solid research behind brainwave entrainment:
Pre-1940's
* Visual (photic) brainwave entrainment was first documented in 1934. However, evidence of visual entrainment has been traced as far back as 200 AD.
1940's
* Dempsey and Morison discovered that repetitive tactile stimulation could also produce entrainment.
1950's
* Dr. Chatrian observed auditory entrainment in response to clicks at a frequency of 15 per second.
1960's
* Anesthesiologist M.S. Sadove, MD, used photic stimulation to reduce the amount of anesthesia needed for surgery.
* Andrew Neher found that rhythmic pounding dramatically altered brain wave activity.
1970's
* In Scientific American, Dr. Gerald Oster examined how combining two pure tones, which he termed Monaural Beats, resulted in a rhythmic beat which he called Binaural Beats.
1980's
* The Department of Neuropsychiatry at Osaka University Medical School in Japan found that photic stimulation produced "cerebral synchronization".
* Michael Hutchison's book MegaBrain outlines the many possible uses of entrainment, from meditation to super-learning.
* Arturo Manns published a study which indicated the amazingly strong entrainment value of Isochronic Tones, as opposed to Monaural or Binaural beats
* Dr. Brockopp analyzed audio-visual brain stimulation, and in particular hemispheric synchronization, during electroencephalogram monitoring. He said, "By inducing hemispheric coherence the machine can contribute to improved intellectual functioning of the brain."
1990's
* Drs. Russell, Carter, and others explored the vast potential of using entrainment with ADD and learning disorders.
* Research has also been conducted on the effectiveness of entrainment on PMS, Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Pain, Depression, Hypertension and a number of other disorders.
